Firefighter, Instructor – International Critical Incident Stress Foundation
Steve Fraser has more than 20 years of experience coaching people through traumatic events, and working with individuals in crisis. He is a sought after resource by both his fellow Firefighters and management in the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (VFRS) for his expertise in Critical Incident Stress Management. His training in this area stretches back to his work on the Sunshine Coast with the Ministry of Children and Families and the Attorney General’s office, helping children and families in crises; he also worked as a volunteer firefighter during this time. In the last 5 years, he has developed his expertise in the area of critical stress having recently completed his instructors certification with the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. He is also a certified Field Traumatologist with the Canadian Traumatology Institute. Currently, Steve is the Coordinator for the 40 member VFRS team, managing more than 80 firehall defusings per year. Providing guidance and support for numerous Canadian and US fire departments, Steve has become a resource for multiple CISM teams. With his years of service with the VF&RS, Steve brings a first hand perspective to addressing the psychological effects of trauma to first responders.
