Four-time Olympian Silken Laumann is one of Canada’s most inspirational leaders, a best-selling author, and a highly recognizable and beloved athlete. Her memoir, Unsinkable, shines a spotlight on the obstacles she has encountered and transcended. Overcoming a devastating accident in 1992 to win an Olympic Bronze Medal, Silken is no stranger to adversity. Through this and her experiences living with a mother who had an undiagnosed mental illness, she has developed strength and resiliency. As an elite athlete, writer and life coach, Silken has made her work reaching her own potential and helping others reach theirs.
Silken is a board member and Kids Champion for GoodLife Kids Foundation, an organization that raises funds to support national, provincial and local programs that provide ongoing physical activity opportunities for kids, removing the barriers holding children back from living a healthy life. From the year 2000 to 2015, Silken served on the International Board of Directors for Right To Play, an organization that brings sport and play to the most disadvantaged children in the world.
