Specialist, Communications and Advancement, CMHA Halton

Melanie joined the CMHA Halton Region Branch team in 2012 as a kind of homecoming – she had previously worked at the CMHA Chatham-Kent Branch and was excited to return to the CMHA family and the world of mental health. Since then, it has been her own lived experience with a mental illness that has reignited her passion to talk and teach about mental health and how people and workplaces can encourage and support wellness, balance, and recovery.

A former high school teacher, Melanie has been an Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) Facilitator since 2004 and is also a Mental Health First Aid Canada Instructor and a certified CMHA Psychological Health and Safety Advisor. For four years, she wrote a weekly column about mental health and wellness for the Chatham Daily News and published over 150 articles. She has a Masters Degree in English and a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Windsor, located in her Ontario hometown.

A passionate learner, Melanie has been blessed with great life teachers, the greatest of all being her 6 year-old son.
